Many Philadelphia Eagles fans have given quarterback Michael Vick a second chance after his dogfighting issues, but now they are unhappy because of Vick’s recent problems in holding on to the football.

Vick served 18 months in federal prison after pleading guilty to funding a dogfighting operation. His three-year probation period has ended, and now Vick has acknowledged that he is a dog owner again.

Philly.com reported that Vick’s publicist released a statement saying, "I understand the strong emotions by some people about our family's decision to care for a pet. As a father, it is important to make sure my children develop a healthy relationship with animals.”

"I want to ensure that my children establish a loving bond and treat all of God's creatures with kindness and respect. Our pet is well cared for and loved as a member of our family.”

Questions arose about Vick owning a dog after he tweeted a photo of himself and his daughter at a table, and a box of dog biscuits were in the picture. When questioned about it, Vick told reporters, according to CSN Philly, “I’m here to strictly talk about football. What goes on in my personal life is not to be talked about. What’s most important right now is the Philadelphia Eagles and getting a win this Sunday.”

Which comes easier without turnovers. Vick lost two fumbles in a 16-14 loss to the Steelers last Sunday, giving him five in five games for the season, according to Fox News. He had another fumble that was recovered by a teammate, and another was overturned by a replay.

Yahoo! Sports reports that Vick has been working with the Humane Society since he was released from prison in 2009. He has spoken out against animal cruelty, and talked to students about the dangers involved in dogfighting. He says he plans to continue that commitment.

''What happened in my past and what I did in the culture I grew up in doesn't shape and mold me as the person I am now,'' Vick said.
