A disturbance over the Upper Mid West and a warm front over the Ohio River Valley and southern Mid Atlantic has been producing waves of showers and thunderstorms over Virginia and Maryland this morning. The good news is the bulk of the thunderstorms will remain well to the south of the Philadelphia and New York City metropolitan areas. The bad news is that showers will remain a threat today.

The disturbance associated with this surface low pressure system will swing through the Philadelphia metropolitan area and towards the coastal waters of New England through this evening. As a result, the surface low pressure system will track towards the New Jersey coastal waters and then out towards the Atlantic producing scattered showers throughout the region along the way. Otherwise, variable to overcast cloud cover can be expected with fog slowly lifting over portions of central and eastern Connecticut by this morning. Temperatures will rebound nicely to near normal levels with highs in the lower to mid 60's throughout the Philadelphia and New York City metropolitan areas.

Similar weather conditions can be expected tomorrow and through this weekend with variable cloud cover and disturbances producing a threat for widely scattered showers. While no one disturbance will produce organized significant rainfall amounts, the threat for showers will produce wet conditions at times. Temperatures will fall to below normal levels by this weekend with highs on Friday in the upper 50's to mid 60's followed by high temperatures in the 50's and low temperatures in the upper 30's to mid 40's this weekend.

A moderating trend will begin to take hold by next week as the pattern begins to shift the storm track to the north of the Philadelphia and New York City metropolitan areas. For the most part, scattered cloud cover and tranquil weather conditions can be expected Monday through Wednesday, however a warm front may produce a few scattered showers on Wednesday. Temperatures will moderate to above normal levels with highs in the lower to mid 60's on Monday followed by highs in the mid 60's to mid 70's for highs through the rest of the week. Temperatures by the end of next week will average 10 to 12 degrees above normal.
