Animal cruelty charges have been dropped against a Tuckerton man for driving with his dog on a motorcycle while it was raining.

According to 6abc.com, 56-year old Gyula Szatmari pleaded guilty to unsafe driving in Municipal Court in Marlboro. He paid $449 in fines and court costs.

Szatmari often rides his motorcycle in southern Ocean County with his Boston terrier named Bosco who sits on a padded platform behind the windshield that Szatmari built for him. But Szatmari was stopped by Marlboro police on August 24, and initially charged with careless driving, and transporting a dog in a cruel and inhumane manner, according to the Asbury Park Press.

Szatmari told police he had been driving with his dog on his motorcycle for years. Amatosgojuryu.com reported that Szatmari had been warned about carrying the dog on a motorcycle a year ago.

The chief law enforcement officer for Monmouth County’s Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals, Victor Amato said they dismissed Szatmari’s animal cruelty charge as long as he never rode with his dog like that again in Monmouth County.

Szatmari's attorney said he believes his client plans to get a special carrier for Bosco due to the concerns of Amato.
