Runners conference set at Jets Training Center

With the spring track and field and marathon season about to begin, Atlantic Sports Health on Sunday will open the doors of the Atlantic Health Jets Training Center to runners from throughout the area for an opportunity to meet and hear from experts in sports medicine on how to prepare themselves and improve their performance.

Experts from Atlantic Sports Health and the N.Y. Jets, will hold morning talks and afternoon breakout sessions with professional and casual runners alike to discuss issues such as hip, knee and foot injuries, metabolic testing and hydration.

The speakers will include Damion Martins, MD, who is director of sports performance for Atlantic Sports Health and the general medical consultant for the N.Y. Jets, as well as the Jets trainer John Mellody. Also speaking will be Barbara Reuven, a physical therapist for Atlantic Sports Health, who is one of 10 people in the nation who has advanced certification in the structural integration technique known as "rolfing," which has been gaining recent attention in the sports would. She will discuss the technique and its benefits for runners at the conference.

Atlantic Sports Health is part of Atlantic Health, the parent company of Morristown Memorial Hospital and Overlook Hospital, and the official healthcare of the New York Jets. Several Atlantic Sports Health physicians, such as Dr. Martins, work closely with the Jets organization.
