Assembly Transportation Chairman John Wisniewski (D-Middlesex) Monday said he intends to hold a public hearing in response to published reports that NJ Transit commuters have been faced with numerous major service disruptions since fare hikes went into effect in May.
"New Jersey commuters deserve better, especially considering this poor service comes after a 25 percent fare hike was forced upon them earlier this year by Governor (Chris) Christie,'' Wisniewski said. "Commuters certainly are paying more for less service in return for Governor Christie's record-setting tax on working people.
"...The many unacceptable delays and disruptions endured by commuters under his leadership simply further emphasize the governor's lack of understanding of what it means to have to take mass transit to work everyday to make ends meet,'' the Assemblyman added. "We've heard many excuses so far for the delays and disruptions, but New Jersey had hot weather, falling trees and trespassers in previous administrations without massive and repeated delays, so something doesn't add up. I intend to call a hearing of the Assembly transportation panel to look into this matter and get answers on behalf of our hard-working commuters. Further details will be announced shortly."
