There was a family of tomatoes walking down the street; Mama Tomato, Papa Tomato and Baby Tomato. They were in a rush and Baby Tomato kept lagging behind. So Papa Tomato stopped and smashed the Baby Tomato on top of the head and said, “KETCHUP!”

Well if you haven’t guessed what I’m writing about today, yes, it’s the tomato. The lycopene in tomatoes is so incredibly beneficial that I thought it would be great to do a top ten list. Here are my top ten reasons to consume tomatoes. Oh, and by the way, it is far more beneficial to eat them cooked or even slightly cooked rather than raw. Additionally, tomatoes are so beneficial please do not do what a lot of people do and drown them in salt. Instead, try drowning them in balsamic vinegar, extra virgin olive oil and some fantastic herbs.

So without further ado, here are V Well Health’s Top 10 Reasons to Eat Tomatoes:

1. High levels of Lycopene flush out free radicals in the body.

2. Great cancer-fighting food.

3. Daily consumption reduces oxidative stress in Type II Diabetes.

4. Great blood purifiers; protects the liver from cirrhosis and dissolves gallstones.

5. They are a natural antiseptic and prevent infections within the body.

6. Nicotinic acid in tomatoes lowers cholesterol levels, preventing heart disorders.

7. Vitamin A improves overall vision, as well as reducing the risk of night-blindness and macular degeneration.

8. Lycopene significantly helps protect skin from sun damage by neutralizing the effects of UV rays.

9. Sautéed tomatoes, red onion, and basil make a great topper for pasta.

10. Bruschetta, one of the all-time favorite appetizers, is easy and healthy. Try it!

Bon appétit, everyone! How easy it is to consume tomatoes?! Try to do so at least 3-4 times a week. Based on the benefits of the tomato, I’m sure you will think it’s as miraculous as I do. If all else fails, sauté chopped tomatoes with a little extra virgin olive oil and your favorite herbs and top anything with them.
