NOW THAT’S FUNNY
A peacock, or more specifically, a peahen, that escaped from the Bronx Zoo has been recovered earlier this afternoon. Peacock refers to the male of the species, peahen refers to the female, and both sexes together are called peafowl. The peafowl population is allowed to roam freely at the zoo, and the missing female went missing since at least Monday.
Earlier this week, the wandering bird was almost captured as it perched on a van outside the zoo. But she eluded the zoo workers, hid in some tall grass, and eventually flew off. Experts have offered many opinions as to why the bird struck out on her own.
Perhaps the peacock:
- Told a friend before she left, “If that stupid snake can get on TV, so can I.”
- Has declared herself a candidate for President in the Republican party.
- Read Chelsea Handler’s new book, realized how boring her own life is and decided it was time she got herself a little some-sumpin’.
- She didn’t run away, she was actually laid off by Governor Cuomo as a part of budget cuts.
- Found a paid up Metrocard and decided to ride till she could ride no more.
- Wants to audition for Bravo’s new television series “Real Fowlwives Of the Bronx.”
- Going down to city hall to have her name legally changed from “peahen” to “peadiddy.”
The zoo’s ornithology curator says that the peafowl usually find their way home on their own because they like the zoo. Afterall, there is plenty of food and not a lot of traffic.
However, the New York Daily News reported that she was found 10 blocks away from the zoo by mechanics in an auto glass shop. News of her capture dispelled the rumor that she ran away to get in line for the iPhone 5. If that was the case, we wouldn't have seen her for a while.
